Top US Open Digital Brand Ambassadors

We used MVPindex data to analyze the field for the 2015 US Open after the draws were unveiled on Thursday, and we found the top 5 digital brand ambassadors in both the Women’s and the Men’s singles brackets. Who’s leading the back in each bracket?

Serena Williams tops the list of brand ambassadors in the women’s singles bracket. Williams edges out Maria Sharapova, Tennis’ most followed women’s singles player overall, through high fan engagement. Williams was the most shared Women’s tennis player on Facebook in August with 58,208 post shares in total. She was also the most retweeted women’s tennis player, meriting 25,793 retweets this month. Serena also has the most Twitter (5,039,998) and Instagram (1,731,378) followers in Women’s Tennis.

The second ranked brand ambassador in the Women’s bracket in the US Open is Maria Sharapova, who we’ve already alluded to as the most followed player in Women’s Tennis. Her total audience size across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is more than 17.5 million fans and followers, 7 million more than Williams. Sharapova edges out Serena by being the most liked Women’s Tennis player on Facebook with more than 15 million fans on the platform.

The top four men have very little separating them in terms of social stats. The finest of margins separates them, with Wawrinka coming in a distant fifth to Djokovic, Murray, Nadal, and Federer. Djokovic holds down the number one spot due to his large following and great engagement. He’s the most followed Men’s tennis player on Instagram, leading Instagram second place Roger Federer by more than 260K followers.

It only took 6 days for this to become the most popular Instagram photo in Men’s Tennis for the last 30 days.

It’s engagement that puts Djokovic in first place, but the biggest social audience belongs to Rafael Nadal. He almost doubles Djokovic’s 3rd place audience across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with more than 22 million fans and followers to his name. Federer has the second largest total audience with over 18.8 million fans and followers.
